Houston Population Continues to Grow

In the past three years, Houston, Texas has topped the charts for leading the nation in growth with a rate of 6.7%. Around 35, 000 people have moved to the Houston, Texas area in 2013. What can we attribute these remarkable and immense numbers to?

First of all, the Houston economy is the largest in the state, and it also ranks number four on the GDP Rank for 2013. To put this into perspective, Houston’s economic output is $463 billion, putting in the same ballpark as other countries, like Taiwan. Next, the growth influx can also be attributed to the city’s hire rate of employment. For every job lost, Houston added three jobs this year, which is more than any other city in the nation. Furthermore, the diversity of the job market creates a draw to this metropolis. Houston ranks very highly in careers that involve manufacturing, finance, and engineering; it also ranks number one for health care careers because of the Texas Medical Center. Lastly, Houston has a very low cost of living when compared to other cities in the nation. People can stretch their paychecks relatively far, and many are even able to save a portion.
